Open Call: Become part of a living installation in the streets of Rotterdam

Would you like to join us in shaping this unique project?
We would love to hear from you.
For the new edition of De Anderen, we are looking for participants to join choreographer Maciej Kuźmiński in creating a unique, living installation in the city. This project is much more than art; it is an artistic and social inquiry into how we perceive one another in our society. Like a human sculpture, a group of people will temporarily settle into the rhythm of the city, challenging passersby through their silent presence. Who do we see as “the other”? And when do we truly accept someone as part of our community?
In collaboration with partners such as Dansateliers and Šeiko Dance Company, we will bring this installation to the streets of Rotterdam at various moments throughout the coming year. We are looking for individuals who are curious about the power of their own presence and want to experience what it means to truly take up space in the public sphere. Whether you have years of performance experience or have never stepped onto a stage before: you are more than welcome. In this project, every background and every body is an essential part of the story.
Do you have a passion for social themes such as connection, loneliness, and social patterns? Your perspective is invaluable and will give this research the depth it needs. This project offers you the opportunity to reflect together with a diverse group of Rotterdammers on the spirit of our times, inviting passersby to pause if only for a moment.
In preparation for the interventions in the city, you will participate in special training day led by Maciej himself, offering you a unique opportunity to learn his movement language and methodology firsthand.
You can sign up for one of our three application periods:
- The first deadline is March 27th
- The second deadline is May 22nd
- The final deadline is July 31st
About the choreographer:
Behind this project is Polish maker Maciej Kuźmiński. With a background ranging from breakdance to a Master’s degree from the prestigious Trinity Laban in London, he has developed a unique movement language called Dynamic Phrasing. Maciej is known for his socially engaged work; for him, dance is “an act of cultural resistance.”
He has previously worked with major companies such as Scapino Ballet Rotterdam and has received international recognition for his performances addressing themes of refugees and exclusion. In 2023, he presented the site-specific installation Transience at RIDCC, further exploring the boundaries between audience and performer. In De Anderen, he brings all of this expertise together to hold up a mirror to the city alongside its residents.
