Choreographers with 13 different nationalities will compete for the largest choreography award in the world
Out of 300+ entries, the professional jury selected sixteen participants for the second edition of the Rotterdam International Duet Choreography Competition (RIDCC) on June 27-29 2019 at Theater Rotterdam. At the end of June international dance talent from all over the world will travel to Rotterdam. RIDCC is the first and only international choreography competition for dance duets. The XL Production Award worth €100,000 is the largest choreography award of its kind in the world.
The participants for RIDCC 2019 are: Angela Rabaglio (CH) & Micaël Florentz (FR), Thibaut Eiferman (FR/US), Diego Sinniger de Salas (ES), Luca Signoretti (IT), Zhiren Xiao (CH), Alex Kyriakoulis & Natasa Frantzi (GR/BE), Serena Malacco (IT), Francesca Foscarini (IT) & Cosimo Lopalco (IT), Max Levy (US/JP), Kwame Asafo-Adjei (GB), Rhys Dennis (GB) & Waddah Sinada (GB), Justin de Jager (NL) & Anastasia Belyaeva (RU), Dereck Cayla (FR), Carlo Massari (IT), Joaquín Collado (ES), Mattheus Paul van Rossum (NL) & Rebecca Laufer (US/IL).
Prejury member Timothy Persent about the selection: “All the pieces were witness to the myriad ways of what dance is and can be, and above all what two people are able to do. Thankfully there were surprises, when two moving bodies touched me deeply, and I am reminded how unique and important an opportunity the RIDCC is.”
27, 28 and 29 June Theater Rotterdam
The 16 selected choreographies will be presented at the preliminaries on Thursday 27 and Friday 28 June at Theater Rotterdam Schouwburg. The final is on 29 June 2019 on the main stage of Theater Rotterdam. On this night the jury will announce the winners of the second edition of RIDCC. Tickets for the preliminary rounds and the final can be bought on www.theaterrotterdam.nl/ridcc2019
The RIDCC Awards
RIDCC offers its contestants more visibility and an extensive network. The winner of the XL Production Award will enjoy a major career boost: with a production budget of €100,000 the winner will be given the opportunity to make a new production at the production company of Theater Rotterdam. Last year this main award was won by Danae Dimitriadi & Dionysios Alamanos from Greece. Their new choreography Free At Last will premiere at Theater Rotterdam on June 6, 2019 during the Danceweek.
Apart from the main award, the XL Production Award, there are six other prizes. Six partner institutions provide the contestants with a wonderful opportunity to work on a project at their dance company. These partner institutions are: Codarts Rotterdam, Conny Janssen Danst, Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, Club Guy en Roni, Maas Theater & Dans and Dansateliers. These partners are convinced of the need to create more opportunities for choreographers and they are keen to play a proactive and practical role in this.
A new award this year is the Audience Award. The audience is allowed to vote and select its own favourite during the final in Theater Rotterdam on 29 June 2019.
